The castaway islands of French Polynesia are scattered across azure lagoons in the South Pacific Ocean. With white sands, clear waters, and swaying coconut palms, this is about as close to paradise as you can get. But how do you plan flights to Tahiti from the UK?
Since you'll need to fly pretty much all the way around the world to get to Tahiti from the UK, there are plenty of interesting stopovers you can include along the way. So whether you’re planning a Tahiti stopover as part of round the world trip or you’re thinking about a tailor-made Tahiti holiday, we can plan the ideal route for you to reach the magical islands of French Polynesia.
Rising out of the vast Pacific Ocean, French Polynesia can be reached in a number of ways. If you’re flying, you’ll arrive into the capital Papeete, the only international airport, which is on the island of Tahiti.
The most common way to include French Polynesia in a round-the-world ticket is as a Pacific stopover between North America or Australasia (in either direction).
From the USA you can fly direct from Los Angeles, or from New Zealand you can fly direct from Auckland. Why not break the journey halfway and spend some time enjoying the bright lights of LA, Hollywood Boulevard, the many theme parks or California’s sun-kissed beaches? Or fly via Auckland and spend some time in New Zealand discovering the endlessly beautiful landscapes, Maori culture, glaciers and spectacular wildlife?
In contrast to other Pacific islands, French Polynesia has no direct flights from Australia, so you’ll need to connect through New Zealand to get there from Australia.
If you’re travelling via Asia and don’t want to visit Australia or New Zealand on the way to Tahiti, you have the option to fly direct from Japan, twice per week. The dazzling skyscrapers and buzzing city life of Tokyo will make a fascinating contrast to laid back island life in the Pacific!
If you'd like to spend even more time exploring the South Pacific, it’s worth knowing that you can also fly to French Polynesia from other palm-fringed paradise Pacific islands! Direct flights to and from Rarotonga (Cook Islands), Noumea (New Caledonia), and Honolulu (Hawaii) are available once per week (in both directions). We can help you plan your time to make the most of these flights.
If you only have a couple of weeks to spare, there are still plenty of options for a tailor-made holiday to French Polynesia. Over just a fortnight, you can discover paradise. Set off on an island-hopping adventure, book a yacht charter for a few days, or fly to one of the remote archipelagos for a cultural experience.
Whether you choose to stick to the glamorous Society Islands, venture to the secluded Tuamotu Islands, sail to the Marquesas, or explore the far-flung Austral Islands, you'll be quickly blown away by the natural beauty of French Polynesia.
Whether you dream of staying in a classic overwater bungalow on Bora Bora or you would prefer to stay in locally-run Tahitian guesthouses, we can help. We've been planning tropical South Pacific escapes for over 20 years, so you can trust us to know our stuff.
We'll talk you through all of the available flight routes and accommodation options. To start planning your holiday to Tahiti from the UK, simply give us a call on 1273 320 580 or request a quote by email.
