French Polynesia diving holiday: Fakarava, Rangiroa & Moorea

Itinerary in brief:

• 1 night Tahiti
• 4 nights Rangiroa
• 4 nights Fakarava
• 4 nights Moorea

Day 1: Depart UK

Depart the UK from your chosen airport.

Included:  International flights

Day 2: Arrive Papeete

On arrival into Papeete Airport you will be met in arrivals by our local representative and taken by shared transfer to your hotel for a 1 night stay. The rest of the day is at leisure.

Included: Transfers, guesthouse accommodation

Day 3: Papeete to Rangiroa

This morning, you’ll be collected from your hotel and driven to the airport for your short domestic flight over to Rangiroa, located in the Tuamotu Islands, only a short 60 minute flight away. On arrival your shared transfer will greet you and take you by boat to your accommodation, home for the next 4 nights.

Days 4 - 6: Rangiroa (4 dives)

Rangiroa is the largest of the Tuamotu Atolls and also has the largest population in the region, meaning a regular air service from Tahiti Airport. Set home to flat islets and sandbars, rather than mountainous peaks, Rangiroa’s gem is its vast lagoon, so large the island of Tahiti could fit inside! Home to schools of dolphin as well an abundance of other marine life, Rangiroa is a popular choice for diving and deep sea fishing.

You'll have 4 dives included during your time here and you can discuss what you are keen to see and experience when you arrive. Beyond diving, exploring the lagoon by boat is also popular pastime, so be sure to book a trip to take you out to the more remote islets. Head to the ‘Pink Sands’ for a desert beach experience with a difference or ‘Reef Island’ to witness the impressive coral formations that have been created by erosion.

Day 7: Fly to Fakarava 

After breakfast, you'll head back to the airport for the short flight to Fakarava. On arrival you will be met and taken to your hotel to check in for a 4 night stay.

Located right on the beach, your lodge accommodation offers tropical gardens and 2 on-site restaurants. Half board is included as standard, meaning you have both breakfast and dinner included. The bungalows are simple and clean, each with a private bathroom and air conditioning.

Days 8 - 10: Fakarava (4 dives)

Known as one of the best diving destinations in the world, the island of Fakarava will prove to be a real highlight of this holiday. Take a leisurely bike ride to the main village of Rotoava, located on the longest continuous ‘motu’ (islet) in French Polynesia, rimmed with extraordinary beaches. Or, head to the far southern end of the lagoon to find an old Catholic church made entirely out of coral, in the village of Tetamanu.

You'll have four dives included in Fakarava, make sure to head down to Tumakohua Pass, home to an underwater valley knowns as Shark’s Hole. This area is heavily populated with lemon, whitecap and hammerhead sharks, making this a popular destination for divers. With a distinct absence of large, resort-style hotels Fakarava offers pure surroundings and a secluded island feel that sets it apart from the most visited islands in French Polynesia.

Day 11: Fly to Moorea    

After a breakfast you will be picked up from your hotel and taken to the airport to connect with your domestic flight to Moorea and your final hotel for four nights, ready to enjoy this lush, mountainous island with its glorious beaches.

Included: Breakfast, boat transfers, internal flights, 4* hotel 

Days 12 - 14: Moorea (2 dives)

With three nights to enjoy lush Moorea, you’ll have plenty of time to kick off your shoes and relax. Alternatively, if you're feeling energetic, you can get out and discover this beautiful island. Moorea is a green wonderland waiting to be explored. Take hikes along steep cliffs, swim in the bright blue lagoon where colourful fish and rays dance through the water and stretch out on unspoilt beaches that will blow you away.

We've include two dives here, so you can enjoy the spectacular lagoon but also have time to explore the island above the water. If you travel between August and November, you have the chance to swim with humpback whales as they travel through French Polynesia on their migration. If you'd like to book a trip to see them, just ask.

Day 15: Depart French Polynesia

After breakfast, you’ll be taken back to the pier for the short ferry over to Tahiti, and taken back to the airport for your flight back to the UK.
