Africa safari holidays
Going on safari in Africa is an iconic experience. Don’t miss an early morning game drive to spot lions or leopard as they feast on a kill. Sunrise is the best time to witness this, as the big cats hunt at night, eat at dawn and leave the hyenas to finish off the leftovers. Mornings are great for spotting predators but the middle of the day is excellent for seeing classic safari wildlife. Watch zebras braying to each other, giraffes munching lazily on acacia trees and wildebeest grazing the grasses. Kenya, Tanzania and South Africa are the classic safari destinations but Botswana, Namibia, Malawi and Rwanda also have their fair share of epic landscapes and breath-taking wildlife experiences.
South American wildlife holidays
It's impossible to visit South America and not be amazed by its colourful wildlife. Home to the iconic Galapagos Islands, here you can swim with penguins, hike past black iguanas sunbathing on rocks and watch waved albatrosses soar above the cliffs. If you're looking for jaguars then make sure you pay a visit to the Pantanal - vast wetlands full of shy tapirs, cheeky coatis and lurking jaguars. Fly south to the Faulkland Islands to see king penguins, look for spectacled bears in the cloud forests of Ecuador and spot rare pink river dolphins in the Amazon.
North American wildlife holidays
North America is awash with exciting wildlife. Look for moose in the forests of New England, snorkel with colourful fish in the warm waters of Key West and watch bison graze in the plains of South Dakota. Watch for cougars in the mountains of Montana, spot bears roaming the wild coast of British Colombia and hear wolves howling in the wilds of Yellowstone National Park. Heading to the coast, you can kayak with orcas in the coves of Vancouver Island and watch humpbacks leap from the depths in the waters off Cape Cod or California. It's not just big mammals that make this a great wildlife destination - look for scurrying chipmunks in Yosemite and hummingbirds flitting through the air in Santa Barbara.
Asian wildlife holidays
The sheer variety of wildlife in Asia is outstanding - scruffy-looking sloth bears in Sri Lanka, enormous Komodo dragons in Indonesia and mighty elephants in Thailand. It's so easy to build a wildlife experience into your Asian holiday - watch snow-monkeys relaxing in the hot pools of the Japanese alps and visit the panda sanctuaries in southern China. Some wildlife is so rare that it's even more special when you see it - tigers almost submerged in the green rivers of India, snow leopards skulking high in the Himalayas and pygmy elephants hiding in the jungle in Borneo.
Round the world holidays with wildlife experiences
With so many iconic wildlife experiences on our planet, it's not difficult to include them in a round the world trip. Fly to Africa for a safari through the Serengeti before heading to Asia to meet the orangutans in Borneo and cuddly pandas in China. Australia is the perfect place to discover some wildlife - platypus in the creeks of New South Wales and koalas nestled in trees in the forests of Queensland. Crossing the Pacific to North or South America, you'll find even more - diving with sea lions in the Galapagos, watching jaguars in the wetlands of Brazil and spotting bears in the Rocky Mountains.
Underwater wildlife holidays
So much spectacular wildlife hides under the water, from the islands of the Pacific to peaceful lakes in Africa. Dive with manta rays in the Tuamotu Islands, snorkel with shimmering fish in Lake Malawi and swim with majestic whale sharks on the Ningaloo Reef. It's not just warm waters that hold fantastic wildlife - the cool ocean in the Galapagos is home to a huge array of wildlife. Swim with Galapagos penguins by the volcanic islands, spot hammerheads as they congregate in the deep water and watch dolphins as they jump out of the water following the boats. If you're not up for going underwater then don't worry - there are so many fantastic experiences to be had without getting wet. Kayak with orcas off Vancouver Island, take a helicopter ride over the Great Barrier Reef or go whale watching off the California coast.
