This trip is the perfect introduction to the lesser-known Lake District, located in the Northern part of Patagonia that straddles Chile and Argentina. Compared to the windswept glaciers of South Patagonia, the lakes enjoy milder weather and lush green landscapes. Here, you will find an intoxicating mix of ancient forests, blue lakes, snow-tipped volcanoes and picturesque alpine villages. You will spend six nights in this beautiful region, crossing the border between Argentina to Chile with a very scenic boat journey. Either side of your stay in the Lake District, you will spend a few days in both capital cities, where you can experience their rich cultures.

Depart the UK from your chosen airport.
On arrival in Buenos Aires, you will be met and transferred to your hotel. The rest of the day is free for you to relax and start exploring the city at your own pace.
After breakfast this morning, you will join a small group for a half day city tour. You will be picked up by your driver and English-speaking guide and shown the highlights of the city, including the famous La Boca Barrio with its colourful buildings and the revamped dockside area of Puerto Madero, offering some of the city’s best culinary experiences. The afternoon will be for you to spend at your leisure.
Today is free for you to explore the city at your own pace and, as a last night treat, we have included a live tango show with return transfers.
After breakfast, you will be collected by your driver and taken to the airport for your flight to Bariloche. On arrival, you will be met and transferred to your hotel. Bariloche sits on the shore of Lake Nahuel Huapi and its compact size is perfect for strolling around on foot Spend the rest of the day walking around, soaking up the views and sipping on the local wine. Be sure to try some of the chocolate this town is famous for too – it’s divine!
Today you will join a small group for a tour through the spectacular scenery that surrounds Bariloche. The trip will take along the shores of the lake, with stunning views of the Andean mountain range in the distance and the ever-changing colours of the water in the foreground. We have also included a short trip by chair-lift to the top of Cerro Campanario. From here you can marvel at the breath-taking views over the lakes and Andean peaks. The 360-degree panorama delivers marvellous vistas of several lakes, including the famous Perito Moreno Lake and the peaks of the Otto, Lopez, Goye and Cathedral mountains.
Today is free for you to explore at your own pace. Bariloche offers a great base from which to explore the surrounding countryside and a wealth of activities like water sports, horse riding, paragliding and skiing in the winter season. You can add any of these activities to your itinerary – just ask!
Today you will experience a full day excursion like no other, crossing the border between Argentina and Chile by lake. The day will comprise a combination of land transfers and 3 lake crossings by catamaran, with staggering scenery every step of the way. You will need to pass through passport control in both countries and a stop for lunch is included in Peulla. At the end of the day, you will arrive in Puerto Varas where you will be dropped off at your hotel.
Today, you will set off on a full day tour to the Petrohué waterfalls and the Osorno Volcano. After breakfast, you will be picked up by your guide and travel through beautiful Andean landscapes to visit the famous falls with their crashing turquoise waters. From here, you will continue to Lake Todos Los Santos, which originates from a glacier, and the towering Osorno Volcano, one of the most famous active volcanoes in Chile. Lunch is included in the rural town of Ensenada.
Chiloé Island is unique in all cultural aspects from its traditions to its history, architecture and gastronomy. Any holiday in the Chilean Lake District should include a visit to this magical place. The island is reached by a quick ferry ride from the mainland and once you will set foot here, you will quickly discover how different it is from the rest of Latin America. Today’s tour will take you on a full day discovery of Chiloé’s natural landscapes and history with visits to Ancud, Dalcahue and its capital, Castro.
Today you will leave Northern Patagonia and, after a transfer to Puerto Montt’s airport, you will take a flight to Santiago. When you land, your driver will meet you and transfer you to your hotel in the city.
After breakfast this morning, you will join a small group for a half day city tour. During the trip, you’ll the take in the legendary landmarks of the Chilean capital, including the Moneda Palace, the president’s seat, the verdant Parque Forestal and the majestic Cathedral. You can choose either a morning or afternoon tour – it’s totally up to you.
Today is free for you to spend as you wish. You can opt to explore some of the areas you visited yesterday in more detail or visit some new districts, such as the charming Barrio Italia. Populated by immigrant Italian artisans in the 19th century, this neighbourhood now offers beautiful crafts, boutique cafés and antique bargains, making it the perfect destination for a half day stroll.
After breakfast, you’ll be transferred to the airport to catch your flight back to the UK.
For this itinerary, it is better to avoid the Patagonian winter so we recommend travelling between mid-September and mid-April.
