    Day 2 & 3: Pittsburgh

Why not start the day with a trip up the Duquesne Incline, with spectacular views over the city. Explore the weird and wonderful at the Andy Warhol Museum and the Mattress Factory Museum before stopping by Point State Park to see where Pittsburgh’s three rivers meet. A visit to the city is not complete until you have tried the ‘almost’ famous Primanti Bros Sandwich. Tuck into this enormous lunch - the sandwich includes your choice of grilled meat, French fries, coleslaw and tomato served between two thick slices of Italian bread. Spend the afternoon learning about the history of Heinz in the Strip District and finish your time in one of the many sports bars watching the Steelers defeat their rivals the New York Jets.

On your second afternoon, we’ve included a tour of the craft breweries, tasting some of the best beers the city has to offer. Sample beers from Strange Roots, The Couch and Penn Brew and learn what makes Pittsburgh so special.

Included: 4* hotel, craft brewery tour

Day 4: Train to Washington DC

An early start today for the train to Washington DC, which will deliver you to the capital city of the USA just after lunch. Make your own way to your hotel, checking in for 4 nights, before getting out to explore Washington DC.

    Included: Train tickets, 4* hotel

    Days 6 – 8: Washington DC

With three days to explore the city you’ll need to make a plan beforehand of where you definitely don’t want to miss! We recommend starting on the Mall, where you can gaze at the wise face of Abraham Lincoln before strolling past the reflecting pool, taking in the Vietnam Veterans Memorial at the Constitution Gardens as you make your way towards the Washington Monument. From here you’ll need to decide which parts of the Smithsonian Institution you want to visit – whether you’re interested in African American history, Native American history or even the National Archives, this huge museum spread over several buildings will keep you busy for hours.

On your second day, you could take in some more of the hits – the White House and the US Capitol before grabbing lunch at Ben’s Chili Bowl, a DC landmark that has been serving chili to the country’s lawmakers since 1958. In the afternoon take a stroll through the pretty streets of Georgetown or wander along the Tidal Basin under the cherry trees. In the evening why not find an Ethiopian restaurant for dinner – DC has the large population of Ethiopians, and their delicious cuisine is represented in lots of restaurants throughout the city.

    Included: 4* hotel

Day 9: Train to New York City

Enjoy your final morning in DC before hopping on the train to New York City. On arrival at Penn Station, you’ll make your way to your hotel and check in for 4 nights.

    Included: Train tickets, 4* hotel

    Days 10 - 12: New York City

With several days to explore this huge city, we’ve included the New York Pass which gives you entry to various sites. This includes the Empire State Building where you can enjoy views over the Hudson as well as of the nearby Chrysler Building, the American Museum of Natural History, where dinosaurs come to life and a cruise around Manhattan, visiting Ellis and Liberty Island. Three days gives you plenty to time to hit the highlights of New York by day - spend your evenings searching for the perfect cocktail in the many rooftop bars of this glittering city.

On your last full day in the city, go all out and enjoy a helicopter tour of New York. You’ll soar over the Chrysler and Empire State buildings with views down the sparkling Hudson River towards Hoboken. You’ll have 30 minutes in the air, plenty of time to enjoy the Big Apple from this unique viewpoint! The rest of the day is yours to enjoy, whether you head to a Broadway play or wander through the Flower District.

Included: 4* hotel, New York Citypass, 30 minute heli tour

    Day 13: Train to Boston

This morning you’ll head back to the station for your train to Boston. On arrival, you’ll make your own way to the hotel and check in for 3 nights.

    Included: Train tickets, 4* hotel

    Day 14 & 15: Boston

Spend a couple of days exploring Boston – we recommend you start by following the Freedom Trail, a route through the city that will take you around 16 different historical sites, from churches and museums to statues and graveyards. For lunch, why not head to the Union Oyster House to try a delicious bowl of New England clam chowder, served here since 1826. Cross the river to explore Cambridge, which is home to both Harvard University and Massachusetts Institute of Technology. In the evening, spend some time strolling the narrow, gaslit streets of Beacon Hill, before settling into a bar and testing some of Boston’s best beers.

During your time here, we’ve included a food tour of the North End, one of the oldest areas of Boston. You’ll taste fresh bread from a small Italian bakery, indulge at an authentic salumeria and sip a delicious cup of espresso. You’ll also stop in at the Old North Church, one of the oldest buildings in North America.

    Day 16: Depart Boston

Enjoy your last morning in the USA before heading to the airport in time for your flight home.

    Included: International flight

    Day 17: Arrive UK

The East Coast of the USA has four distinct seasons, freezing winters with snow, cool springs with bright days and showers, hot and sticky summers with pleasant, crunchy autumns. These cities don’t really have an off season but May and September are often recommended times to visit due to mild temperatures and slightly fewer crowds, although Washington DC gets expensive and busy when the cherry blossom blooms.
