This offbeat trip to Brazil in the scenic northeast combines a brilliant trek with a rewarding beach break. After exploring a little of Salvador and Chapada Diamantina National Park, you’ll embark on the 4 day/3 night Pati Valley trek – considered to be one of the most beautiful in Brazil. Crossing rivers and rugged tracks, you’ll get panoramic views every day, including the canyon of the Cachoeirso valley and the chance to take a dip and cool off. By night, you’ll sleep in a cosy, local homestay and enjoy a buffet meal and a good night’s rest.
Finish your trip with a beach break on the breath-taking Maraú Peninsula, one of the few coastlines in Brazil that remains largely untouched by tourism, boasting miles of deserted beaches backed by swaying palms – just the reward you deserve after the accomplishment of finishing your trek!

Depart the UK from your chosen airport.
On arrival at Salvador airport, you will be met and taken by private transfer to your hotel where you will check in for a 3-night stay.
You have now two full days to explore the old colonial city of Salvador. We suggest strolling through the colourful, historic centre, locally called Pelourinho and perhaps taking another day to visit some of the beautiful beaches that are on the outskirts of the city.
This morning, you’ll be collected from your hotel and driven by private transfer to Salvador airport for your flight to Lençois. Once you land, you will be met and taken by private transfer to your hotel.
In the afternoon, we’ve included a guided tour and walk to Morro do Pai Inacio, the stunning vantage point at 1,220m in Chapada Diamantina National Park. It’s a rocky trail, but not too difficult, and your reward for the walk is the spectacular views over Bahia from the summit!
For the next three days, we’ve included one of Brazil’s most famous and beautiful hikes through the Pati Valley – far away from towns and cities. The trek crosses rivers and rocky trails, so you’ll need a good level of fitness and to come prepared for the hike. Depending on the season you’ll have the opportunity to take a dip to cool off along the way!
Accompanied by a private guide, you’ll be trekking for about 6-7 hours a day, with your guide providing food and drink along the way.
For a more authentic experience, we’ve included local homestays for your first two nights and your host who will also provide a delicious local dinner. On the last day, your trek continues to Igatu where you’ll check in to the hotel for a night.
You will be collected in the morning from your hotel and driven by private transfer to Lençois airport where you will connect with your flight to Ilheus. Once you land, you will be met and taken by private transfer to your hotel.
After your trek, we’ve included four full days to relax and enjoy the stunning Peninsula de Marau with its golden beaches and palms.
Marau is one of those rare places in the country’s coastline that remains untouched and pristine. At more than 40km in length, the peninsula shelters wild, deserted beaches, lakes, mangroves, natural swimming pools, waterfalls, rivers, forests and wildlife – an untouched paradise that begs to be explored.
We’ve included some outdoor activities which you can choose to take on any day - all on a private basis. Take a boat trip, visit natural pools, where you can snorkel, swim or sunbathe with a few beach bars on hand to help you relax. Then you can explore the laid-back fishing village of Barra Grande and stroll under its palms, banana plants, cashew and mango trees. Plus you’ll have plenty of free time for you to explore at your leisure.
You will be collected in the morning from your hotel and driven by private transfer to Ilheus airport where you will connect with your onward flight back home.
Why not add in a stopover?
Chapada Diamantina’s rainy season is between November and February. The Maraú Peninsula can be visited all year round, however, from April to June there is a higher chance of rain and humidity.
