Depart the UK from your chosen airport.
On arrival in Bali, you'll be met at the airport and driven to your hotel just outside of Ubud, checking in for three nights.
Ubud is the cultural heart of Bali; full of local galleries, traditional jewellers and tiny restaurants serving up delicious Balinese delights. Spend the morning exploring the city – make sure you visit the pretty Water Temple - before heading back to your hotel, set in the lush green paddy fields that surround Ubud.
You could easily devote a whole afternoon to wandering the rice fields, watching the farmers plough through the water and ducks waddling along the edge of the pools. But make sure you’ve reached the village of Petulu by dusk so you can witness the white herons descending on the trees to roost through the night. Ubud is also a great place to try a cooking class – learning to whip up a bowl of traditional Indonesia nasi goreng will be a good idea once you’re home and missing all the tasty Indonesian food - so if you’d like us to book one for you, just ask!
After breakfast, you'll be driven back to the airport for the short flight to Labuan Bajo, where you'll be met and taken to your hotel for the night. Relax and start getting excited to embark on your Komodo cruise tomorrow morning!
This morning you'll board the Katharina and settle into your home for the next week, where you'll be in your comfortable cabin on this 38m ship. With only 6 cabins for 12 passengers, this is the perfect small ship experience of Komodo and the surrounding islands. Head off on the first of many snorkelling expeditions before going ashore on Rinca Island, in search of the fearsome Komodo dragons. You'll also anchor off a small island to witness thousands of flying foxes as they fly off at dusk to feed. Enjoy a fantastic drift snorkel on Gili Lawa Darat, before trekking to a viewpoint on the island to watch the sun setting across Komodo National Park
For the next couple of days, you'll go ashore on Sangeang Island, an active volcano, where you'll visit the local village and snorkel with tropical fish on the coral reef nearby. You'll also get to experience one of the famous SeaTrek beach barbecues under the stars as you tuck into local specialities from the chef and enjoy music from the talented crew. Go ashore on Moyo Island, where you'll bathe in the cool waterfalls of the rainforest.
Embrace the exhilarating opportunity to swim with whale sharks, some of the most majestic creatures in the ocean. Swimming with these gentle giants will be a highlight of your trip before visiting local villages to experience their ancient practice of buffalo racing through the muddy rice paddies. You'll also visit Satonda Island, a magical island with a sunken crater lake at it's centre and visit a small community that builds pinsi ships right on the beach.
Enjoy a unique snorkelling experience where volcanic gas escapes in the form of bubbles from the sea floor among the corals before heading back into Komodo National Park for some more drift snorkelling. You'll enjoy a hands-on coral conservation project at Hatamin Island and create your own coral rack to place at sea before hanging out with sea turtles and manta rays in the nearby reef cleaning stations.
After breakfast on your final day with Seatrek, you'll disembark the boat and head off on a scenic drive to Melo Village to enjoy the traditional Caci dance performance. Local strongmen perform a ritual whip-fight between two rivals in which the players, each armed with a rattan shield and a whip, will try to hit each other while dancing to the rhythm of traditional acoustic instruments. It's an incredible end to your week long adventure in Komodo National Park and the surrounding beautiful islands. Wave goodbye to the wonderful crew and head to the airport for your short flight back to Bali.
You'll be met on arrival at the airport, before being driven south to Uluwatu for some beach time. Why not head straight to the beach, to sink your toes into the sand and sip a cold cocktail as you watch the sun set into the ocean.
Relax on the beautiful beaches of Uluwatu; strolling along the sand, swimming in the ocean and feeling the breeze in your hair. In the afternoon, you'll head with a guide to visit Uluwatu Temple, found on a cliff-top overlooking the Indian Ocean, with breath-taking views over the water. After visiting this unique temple, you'll enjoy a delicious dinner inside a cave restaurant, admiring the stunning natural rock formations as you raise a glass to toast your incredible journey through Indonesia.
After breakfast you'll be driven back to the airport for your international flight home.
