Spectacularly situated on the Mossman River, Silky Oaks Lodge offers a luxury retreat not far from the town of Port Douglas. Experience the ancient wonders of the Daintree Rainforest at the lodge, an oasis of elegance and beauty, nestled on the edge of a World Heritage-listed wilderness. With contemporary design and casual sophistication surrounded by the sights and sounds of the rainforest, the lodge is a haven of nature and modern comfort.

Stay in the heart of the canopy in the Treehouse Retreats, each featuring wide verandas and luxurious spa baths under the trees or right by the water in the Riverhouse, where you can hear the river cascading below as you fall asleep. You'll dine on gourmet meals and tropical produce at the iconic Treehouse Restaurant, with the sounds of nature surrounding you. Spend your days soaking up the natural environment and indigenous culture of the Daintree, whether you're enjoying guided walks with the Kuku Yalanji elders, learning about the ancient spirit of the forest or heading out to enjoy forest bathing, kayaking and river snorkelling.

From the comfort of this relaxing eco-lodge you can also experience the nearby Great Barrier Reef, whether you want to snorkel, dive or simply relax on the nearby beaches.

Why we love it here

  • Truly feeling the spirit and atmosphere of the Daintree Rainforest
  • Staying in a treehouse style suite amongst the trees
  • Experiencing Dreamtime walks with the Kuku Yalanji guides
  • Snorkelling in the clear waters of the Mossman River
  • Enjoying true eco-luxury at the Healing Waters Spa

I loved the open-air Treehouse Restaurant at Silky Oaks Lodge - dining on delicious food surrounded by lush vegetation, with all the sounds of the water, birds and chirrups of the crickets - it was just amazing.

Best time to visit

Ideally the best time to visit the Daintree Rainforest is during north Queensland's dry season, between May and October. During these months the humidity is lower, as well as having minimal rain, so it's the perfect time for hiking, looking for wildlife and exploring the trails and rivers in the rainforest. The wet season is special in it's own way too, with lush green forest and waterfalls at their fullest - but the heat and humidity isn't for the faint hearted!
