On arrival in Medellin you will be met at the airport and taken by private transfer to your hotel.
After breakfast today, you will be picked up at your hotel and taken on a guided tour to learn about the social transformation that has taken place in Medellin. Your local guide will take you to the symbolic areas of the city from the 1980s, when it was one of the most dangerous places in the world, and show you the projects that fostered the city’s positive change.
You will visit Barrio Santo Domingo Savio, once one of the most unsafe parts of Medellin, but nowadays a thriving, friendly neighbourhood. You will travel on local transport with your guide, taking the metro from one place to the next. It’s an eye-opening and inspiring excursion. After the tour, you will be brought back to your hotel and have the rest of the day at leisure.
After breakfast today, you’ll set off on a full-day tour to Guatapé, a quaint village famous for its pastel-coloured buildings and located next to a reservoir created by the Colombian government for a hydro-electric dam. In the middle of the reservoir, you’ll see the towering Peñol rock, a granite monolith that rises 200 metres above the ground. You can reach the top by climbing the 654 brick steps built in a broad fissure in the side of the rock. It’s a knee-wobbling climb, but the views from the top are a million times worth it. You’ll be served lunch at a local restaurant, and afterwards, you’ll explore the reservoir by land and by boat. Later in the afternoon, you’ll head back to Medellin and the rest of the day will be at leisure.
After breakfast this morning, you will be picked up by your driver and taken to the airport for your onward flight.
Medellin is famous for its spring-like weather throughout the year. The days are cool and pleasant, while the nights can be quite crisp, due to the altitude and surrounding mountains.
