Enjoy the varied wildlife of South Africa’s Eastern Cape on this malaria-free safari in Amakhala Game Reserve, Port Elizabeth. Spend three nights in a 4* lodge exploring the Amakhala Game Reserve, where antelope graze on the endless plains and baby cheetahs play in the tall grasses. Look for elephants and hippos bathing in the river on your morning game drive before retreating to the lodge for some rest and relaxation. Evening safaris will reveal the nocturnal animals like leopards as they come out to hunt as well as other like warthogs that retreat to the safety of their burrows. On arrival in Port Elizabeth you will be met at the airport and driven to your lodge in Amakhala Game Reserve where you will check in for three nights.
Spend a couple of days looking for wildlife at Amakhala Game Reserve. Enjoy morning and afternoon game drives, looking out for the Big 5 as you make your way through the bush. Look out for lions guarding their playful cubs, elephants cooling off underneath the shady canopy as giraffes munch their way through the treetops. Evening drives will reveal hippos splashing around in the river, porcupines emerging from their dens and shy bat-eared foxes slinking around in the twilight.
For the rest of the day you can enjoy the quiet tranquillity of the Hlosi Game Lodge from your veranda, watching as buffalo wander to the waterhole or enjoy a sundowner whilst the elephants take a drink from the swimming pool.
Sadly your time in Amakhala has come to an end – after breakfast you will be collected from the lodge and driven back to Port Elizabeth.
The climate is mild year round, however there are ‘seasons’ you may want consider when planning your trip along the Garden Route. They tend to experience rainfall during the winter months (June to August) when it tends to be greener all round. The rains come in with a cooler air, last maybe a day or two and are then usually followed by champagne days’ of crystal clear air, blue skies and brilliant colours!
The summer months (November to February) are usually warm or hot, and during December to January the surf is often at its best due to the south easterly winds.
