Itinerary in brief:

Day 1: Depart UK

Depart the UK from your chosen airport. Your flight will arrive in New York on the same day – on arrival transfer to your hotel for 2 nights.

Day 2: Free day in New York

With so much on offer, plan wisely to maximise your time. Highlights of the city include:

• Walking the High Line – disused train tracks turned into gardens running above the Meatpacking District
• Getting up to the ‘Top of the Rock’ at the Rockefella Centre – or the Empire State Building
• Heading to the heart of midtown and the neon Times Square
• Wandering through Central Park
• Stopping at Moma (Museum of Modern Art)
• Visiting Grand Central Station and try oysters in the restaurant
• Taking the Staten Island Ferry for views of the Statue of Liberty
• Getting bargain, last minute theatre tickets for a Broadway production

Day 3: Fly to Las Vegas

It’s off to the Nevada desert today – Welcome to Las Vegas. Board the flight in New York and on arrival head to your hotel to check in for 2 nights.

Day 4: Free day in Las Vegas

In addition to the plentiful casinos, you'll find shopping galore, shows, restaurants, an IMAX cinema, clubs, luxury spas and swimming pools for a relaxing mini break.

If you don't plan to visit the Grand Canyon with your campervan, you could instead visit on a day trip from Las Vegas. If time is of the essence, why not visit by helicopter from the Strip? Ask for further details.

Day 5: Collect your campervan

Today you’ll pick up your Apollo Pioneer campervan – a 5 berth vehicle packed with comforts to make the next ten days easy and comfortable!

Day 6 – 13: Own travel arrangements

We’ve not planned this part of the journey for you – it’s you, the van and the open road! For inspiration please see Chris’s blog from when he visited this area with his family.

Highlights in the area include Death Valley and the mighty Yosemite National Park – check out the local Visitor Centres for guided hikes and information on the local flora and fauna. Mammoth Lakes is a good stopping point with a host of outdoor activities– this is a year-round resort with skiing throughout the winter and hiking, cycling and watersports during the summer.

Famous for world-class wineries, the Napa Valley is just to the north of San Francisco and is a gourmet destination, matching amazing local produce and wines.

San Francisco is not to be missed – with Alcatraz, the Golden Gate Bridge, Union Square, the tram system, the bohemian districts and a cosmopolitan feel, why not stop for a night or two? From here, hit the Pacific Coast Highway south, and explore the towns and coast scenery around Carmel, Monterrey and San Luis Obispo en route to your final destination, Los Angeles.

Campsites with electrical hook-ups can be booked in advance and we recommend you plan this in advance if travelling during US holidays or over the summer, which is considered peak season.

Day 14: Arrive into Los Angeles

Today you’ll say goodbye to your campervan and check-in to your hotel for the final 2 nights of your holiday.

Day 15: Free day in Santa Monica

Your hotel is located at the beach in Santa Monica, a suburb of LA. The promenade is bustling and there are plenty of cafes and restaurants for you to enjoy dinner, people watch and relax and reflect on the great journey you’ve just had.

Day 16: Depart Los Angeles

Your USA holiday has come to an end, so it’s time to check in for your return flight to the UK.
