Depart the UK from your chosen airport.
You’ll arrive in French Polynesia two days later, in the early morning. On arrival, you’ll be met at the airport and taken to your hotel in Tahiti, where you’ll be able to relax and swim in the pool after your epic journey.
After breakfast, you’ll be taken to the airport for the short and scenic flight to Raiatea. Rich in culture and historical significance, this island is home to ancient myths and hidden temples. The second largest of the Society Islands, Raiatea shares an expansive lagoon and coral reef with its neighbouring island, Taha’a. On arrival into Raiatea Airport, you’ll be met and taken to your local style hotel, where you’ll check in for a three night stay.
We’ve included 2 full days here for you to explore the island of Raiatea. On your first day, we’ve included a tour to neighbouring Taha’a, known as the Vanilla Isle. You’ll head over to Taha’a by boat, visit a vanilla plantation, explore a pearl farm to learn about the famous Tahitian pearls and snorkel with shimmering fish in a lush coral garden.
The rest of your time is yours to enjoy Raiatea. If you’re feeling active, head north to Mount Temehani, an extinct volcano that offers great hiking options and a chance to search for the rare Tiare Apetahi, an extraordinary flower that grows only in this region. Alternatively, we can arrange a jeep safari tour that takes you into the island’s lush jungle. Listen out for the sounds of tropical bird song as you meander through verdant jungle, occasionally stumbling across ancient temples, hidden deep in the trees. Otherwise, just kick back and relax in your local-style hotel.
After breakfast, you’ll be taken back to the airport and fly to Huahine, a beautiful neighbouring island. All of these islands are so close together and, on a clear day, you can see Raiatea, Taha’a, Bora Bora and Maupiti from the beach in Huahine. When you arrive, you’ll check into your hotel for three nights.
On your first day in Huahine, we’ve added a full-day tour around the lagoon. During the trip, you’ll learn how to crack open a coconut, how to make poisson cru (the national dish – raw fish with lime juice), and how to tie a sarong. You’ll snorkel alongside stingrays, blacktip reef sharks and clouds of silvery fish before eating freshly barbecued seafood with your feet dangling in the warm water. It’s a wonderful way to spend the day and get to see the best of the lagoon.
The second day is yours to enjoy the island, whether you want to go snorkelling again or relax on the beautiful beaches.
This morning, you’ll head to the airport for the short flight to Moorea. Famous for its heart shape, Moorea is one of the most scenically striking islands in French Polynesia, popular for its laidback vibe and friendly locals. On arrival at the airport, you'll be met and driven to the north-west coast, where you’ll check in for the next three nights.
On your first day in Moorea, we’ve included a coral planting experience, where you and your family can learn about coral life, the reef ecosystem and contribute to its restoration by planting corals in the nursery. After this, you’ll head off to the large Tiaia coral nursery, where you’ll be able to get in the water with a mask and snorkel to discover corals in various stages of growth, attached to supports immersed at a depth of around 3 meters.
The rest of your time here is yours to relax or explore at your leisure. Moorea is a green wonderland waiting to be explored. Take hikes along the cliffs, swim in a bright blue lagoon where colourful fish and rays dance through the water and stretch out on unspoilt beaches that will blow you away.
Moorea’s unique landscape means it is one of the best islands for activity and adventure, both on the land and the water. Lagoon excursions include snorkelling, paddle boarding and fishing or if you are visiting between August & October whale watching tour is a must.
Spend the morning in Moorea before being driven to the ferry port for the 30 minute journey over to Tahiti. From here you’ll be driven to the airport for your flight home.
The best time to visit French Polynesia is during the dry winter period between May and October when the weather is fresher, and there is much less rainfall. From November to April temperatures rise and the summer rainy season begins, bringing humid, cloudy weather and lots of rain. Over this period, it’s not uncommon to experience brief violent storms or rains lasting a few days at a time. Peak season is July and August, as well as Christmas and the Easter school holidays so expect prices to be at a premium.
