General testing guidelines for travellers
At first glance, the admin of COVID testing can be more than a little mind-boggling. We're here to help. Wherever you're planning to travel, here are a few general rules to get you on the right track. Believe it or not, it's simpler than it seems. This information is given as guidance for travel to/from England and is subject to change (please check any specific requirements for Wales, Scotland or Northern Ireland using links within the guidance).
- Check FCDO travel advice and entry requirements for your destinations abroad
- Book required COVID-19 tests via a government-approved test provider
- Check the rules for returning to England
- Complete your passenger locator form before arrival home to the UK
Choosing a COVID-19 test provider
There’s now a truly baffling number of government-approved test providers with a wide range of pricing and service levels. We act independently from all testing providers, but based on our own experiences, we recommend the three providers listed below. We hope you find them useful.
Where an antigen test is required (e.g. before your return to the UK), you’ll now find that testing facilities are widely available abroad. However, you may prefer to take an approved test kit away with you, to be completed by video. You’ll find all the details below.
Please ensure your test is taken within the required timeframe before departure and select a service where your result and certification will arrive in good time. We’ll also be on hand to help guide you through the process.
It’s important to note that, currently, NHS tests cannot be used for travel purposes.
