For my trip to Bangkok in April 2016, I flew with Taiwanese airline EVA Air in their Royal Laurel Business Class cabin. EVA Air operate a direct flight from the UK to Bangkok, which takes around 12 hours. EVA Air makes a great option if you’re keen to get to Thailand and get on with your trip without layovers along the way, flying you direct from Heathrow to Bangkok.
At London Heathrow, EVA Air shares the Maple Lounge with Air Canada. It’s a relaxing environment with plenty of seating and a calming wooden interior. You can expect a self-service selection of hot and cold meals and desserts as well as a bar offering all the usual drinks including champagne and Prosecco. No encouragement needed there!
Both in the Business Class lounge and in the cabin you’ll be served champagne, plus your choice of meal. I was able to pre-order my meal choice online before flying and enjoyed a tasty hot dinner and cooked breakfast – definitely no likelihood of midnight hunger pangs! I'd also recommend sampling their signature 'Evergreen' cocktail which is available in every cabin on request.
There’s some good quality entertainment on board including touch screen TV and noise cancelling headphones – I managed to catch up on 4 or 5 of the latest film releases during the flight. And if like me, a flat iDevice spells doom, fear not; they provide USB charging sockets. You can access wifi on board (in all cabin classes), but it’s charged at USD$12/hour or $22/hour for 24 hours.
When it comes to the nitty-gritty of sleeping (which is the main event in Business Class after eating and drinking!) – you can look forward to 2m long lie-flat beds and plenty of private space as the seats are configured in a spacious reverse herringbone layout.
After dinner I slipped into the cosy cotton PJs they provide – and getting changed in the bathroom was not an ordeal; the bathrooms are larger than in economy and there is a bench seat which pulls down over the toilet so you can lay your clothes out whilst you get changed.
They provide a cute little amenity box, shaped like a mini suitcase which comes with a cool set of Thai Sandalwood scented toiletries and a particularly yummy lip balm. The latest news is that Skytrax has awarded EVA Air ‘Best Business Class amenities’ – so I'm not alone in appreciating these details.
You’ll have a roll-out mattress which covers your seat and a homely, cosy duvet to cover you and the seat itself is fully adjustable so it’s hard to feel uncomfortable. Once I’d played with the controls and fathomed how much I could adjust it, I managed to get it totally flat, which makes for a very promising night’s sleep!
If you have little ones travelling with you, you’ll enjoy the Hello Kitty liveried EVA aeroplanes! Be warned, kids may develop a sudden interest in plane spotting when this child-friendly plane is at the gate. On board, kids can enjoy a Hello Kitty lunch box and the inflight merchandise include plenty of themed treats and toys to keep them busy!
With Bangkok and Taipei as their hubs, EVA Air also fly to China, Japan, Taiwan, Korea, South East Asia, North America and Australia (Brisbane). As winner of the Skytrax award for Best Transpacific Airline – you know you’ll be in safe and comfortable hands!
If you’d like to book convenient and comfortable direct flights to Bangkok, EVA Air should be top of your list! To book flights or to plan a trip, call us on 1273 320 580 or make an enquiry by email.
