Nestled amongst the native trees with the dramatic backdrop of the Kaikoura mountains, overlooking the rugged coastline, Hapuku Lodge is one of New Zealand's most iconic luxury retreats. Famous for it's spectacular tree houses, found high amongst the kanuka trees with sweeping views across the landscape, the lodge combines a warm atmosphere with contemporary design. Using natural materials to make the most of the surrounding landscape, the rooms are delightful, with spacious interiors and cosy fireplaces.
Food is a huge part of any stay here, with the renowned restaurant celebrating the best of New Zealand's seasonal produce with fresh local seafood and regional wines. Spend your time exploring the area, looking for whales and dolphins along the coast, learning some new cooking skills at the nearby Hapuku Kitchen and exploring the quaint town under the mountains.

I loved my stay at Hapuku Lodge - a delicious breakfast, falling asleep in a beautiful treehouse room with one of the comfiest beds I've ever slept in and watching the sky turn pink behind the snow capped mountains - it was just heaven.
Best time to visit
Hapuku Lodge is fantastic year-round but the best time to visit is between October and April, when mild temperatures and long days make it ideal to enjoy the whale watching, hiking and the spectacular coastline that Kaikoura is famous for. If you're looking for dramatic peaks and cosy evenings by the fire, then the winter months can be equally magical.
