Get off the grid with this Montana ranch stay, deep in the heart of Yellowstone country. Your base will be the beautiful Lone Mountain Ranch, one of National Geographic’s Unique Lodges of the World, located just 18 miles from Yellowstone National Park by road. Here, you’ll enjoy farm-to-table meals, sip on night caps in the Saloon Bar and sleep in a traditional log cabin with mountain views.
Spend each day riding through the endless mountains on horseback, mountain biking across the grassy plains and white-water rafting on the gushing rivers. For quiet time, try painting or photography to capture the romantic landscape. We’ve also included a day trip into Yellowstone National Park, where you can spot bison, bears and moose amongst the geysers and colourful pools. It’s a pure American adventure, with scenery, lodging and activities that show the country off at its best.

On arrival in Bozeman Yellowstone International Airport, you will be collected at the airport and driven to Lone Mountain Ranch, around 1 hour away. Here you will check into your cabin for five nights.
Your time here will be spent outdoors, experiencing the lush mountainous landscape of Montana. Horse riding will be an essential part of your daily life here – you’ll be matched with a horse early on, with an expert wrangler guiding you, whether you’ve never done it before or are an experienced rider. From galloping through the ranch to venturing into the National forest, you’ll explore parts of the backcountry that few visitors to America experience.
Other activities include spirited mountain biking through the hills - with just a bike, a map and picnic lunch you’ll set off into the wilderness to spend some time navigating Yellowstone country, and white-water rafting, where you’ll float along admiring the forest around you and attacking the winding river.
If you’d rather spend your time quietly contemplating the outstanding scenery around you, there are painting and photography lessons that can be arranged, whether you want to recreate the gorgeous views on canvas or learn how to photograph the wildlife by day or night. Another good option for those looking for some relaxation are the daily yoga sessions and massage therapy, perfect for clearing your mind after a day of exploring. There is also a Young Adventurers programme with lots of options for kids to get into the activities and fall in love with the great outdoors!
One full day of your time here will be spent visiting Yellowstone National Park – heading off with an experienced naturalist guide you will hike, explore and gaze in awe at the geologically beautiful landscape of this area, visiting the geysers like Old Faithful and looking out for bears, moose and mighty bison as they graze the grasslands.
Each night you’ll fall asleep in your cosy cabin – think clawfoot bathtubs, cowhide rugs and warm wood burners – all the modern amenities you’d want whilst still maintaining the authentic heritage of a Montana ranch. Each cabin is different, both in size and style, so we’ll make sure to find the perfect one for you. The food at Lone Mountain Ranch is exciting and bold, where Western favourites meet modern fare with signature cocktails that match the delicious flavours.
Your time in the Big Sky State comes to an end today. After breakfast you’ll leave the Montana ranch and be driven back to Bozeman Airport in time for your onwards flight.
The climate of Montana is dictated by the Rocky Mountains and every season is beautiful in its own way. Freezing winters give rise to sleigh rides, skiing and cosy nights in, while summers are perfect for long days of hiking and riding with late night sunsets. Autumn is a surprisingly lovely time to visit with blue skies most days but beware an early snow flurry and bring your woollies.
Lone Mountain Ranch has a 7 night minimum stay between June 24th – August 25th.
