Discover the rainforest of north east Peru on this luxury Amazon cruise on board the Amazon Star. You’ll spend a few days journeying deep into the Amazon and taking small-boat excursions even further into waterways. In this tranquil, pristine environment, you’ll be able to spot many different bird species from the ship’s deck and identify them with the help of expert on-board guides. Journey down different waterways in search for monkeys and to fish for Piranha, then visit a local village and school to discover first-hand what life in the Amazons is like. These few days will take you to a remote and undiscovered corner of Peru and offer a completely different outlook on Amazonian life from the comfort of your luxury ship.

After landing in Iquitos, you’ll be met by the staff of the Amazon Star and driven to the city for a guided tour of Iquitos – fascinatingly it’s the world’s largest city that cannot be reached by road. After visiting the main attractions including the Amazon Rescue Centre (CREA) and the Museum of Amazonian Indigenous Cultures, you’ll be taken to the port to board your cruise ship.
This afternoon you’ll begin navigating the Amazon River, and after a delicious dinner, you’ll be briefed on the following day’s activities.
Early in the morning, you can choose to head to the observation deck for an optional bird watching activity. Peru has the second highest number of bird species in the world, and most of them can be found in the Amazon! After breakfast, you’ll go on a boat exploration along the Amazon River to observe the biodiversity and look out for monkeys and other jungle life.
In the afternoon you’ll go for another boat exploration – this time sailing along the Yarapa River into a nature reserve that’s protected by a local community. Back on the boat, you’ll have some time to relax before dinner and next day’s activities briefing.
There’s another early start to the day, with the opportunity to join a bird watching activity on the deck followed by a boat exploration of the beautiful Yanallpa stream.
After breakfast, you’ll visit a village and school to understand a little more about the culture and tradition of Amazonian communities. After lunch, a naturalist guide will offer an educational talk on the Pacaya Samiria National Reserve, and in the evening you’ll go on a night walk in El Dorado stream to see the nocturnal wildlife. Back on the Amazon Star dinner will be served and the guides will brief the passengers on tomorrow’s activities.
Early this morning, you’ll head out for a boat exploration of El Dorado River and the chance to fish for the famous Amazon piranha, followed by a picnic-style breakfast on the river.
There will be other boat trips today including a journey along the Supay stream which you can choose to kayak. At the end of the day, enjoy a delicious farewell dinner.
After breakfast today, you’ll disembark the Amazon Star, and you will be driven back to Iquitos airport for your next flight.
Amazon cruises can be taken all year round. March and April tend to receive more rainfall than the other months of the year.
