Meals as mentioned in the itinerary
Depart the UK from your chosen airport. On arrival, you’ll be met and taken to your hotel in Dar Es Salaam. Enjoy dinner tonight, excited for your Nyerere National Park to begin tomorrow.
Early this morning you’ll be taken back to the airport for a short light aircraft flight to the Nyerere National Park. On arrival, you’ll be driven to your lodge and settle in for three nights. As you’ve arrived early, there’s plenty of time to enjoy a couple of game drives today.
You’ll be staying at Beho Beho, set in the beautiful Beho Beho hills. Set within the wilderness of Nyerere National Park, staying at this beautiful lodge is an intimate and luxurious experience, combining beautiful surroundings with a real sense of adventure. You'll be staying in one of the open-fronted bandas, each with its own private plunge pool, creating a secluded spot to relax between safaris while still feeling immersed in the surrounding wilderness.
The vast expanse of the Nyerere National Park is almost the size of Switzerland. It has significant concentrations of elephants and lions, just some of the fascinating wildlife you’ll set out to spot on your twice daily game drives. It’s also a fantastic place to see African Hunting Dogs, which were almost extinct in the 1980s. The population is now growing steadily, so you should feel honoured if you spot one of these beautiful animals.
You’ll embark on a few different types of trip, including walking, boat and jeep safaris. The Selous is especially good for boat safaris – floating quietly along the river looking for yellow storks amongst the reeds or hippos lazing about in the shallow water. Nyerere is also a lot quieter than many of the more northern parks like the Serengeti, so you are much less likely to see other vehicles and people throughout your day. For a remote and wild safari, Nyerere is a great choice.
After one final game drive this morning, you’ll head to the airstrip to fly from the Nyerere to Zanzibar. On arrival you’ll be driven to your hotel, where you’ll check in for six nights. You'll be staying at Kisiwa on the Beach, a tropical retreat on the southeast coast of Zanzibar. Relax in your private villa, sink your toes into the white sands, read books under the swaying palms and snorkel in the turquoise water. Your days here will fly by.
And relax! After all that exploration on safari, you deserve some beach time! These five days are for you to relax; whether you want to snorkel in the crystalline waters or simply laze on the beach under the warm African sun. However you fill your days, you can end each night with a romantic seafood dinner under the stars – this is truly a paradise island.
After breakfast, you’ll be driven back to the airport for your flight home.
Tanzania lies on the equator, so it has a pleasant, tropical climate all year round. It’s warmer on the coast than inland. They are too close to the equator to experience a real winter and summer but there is a pronounced dry season (between June and October) and wet season (between November and May). January and February are often the driest months of the wet season, but it’s always impossible to predict how long the dry spells will last.
