Tetiaroa, French Polynesia, Australasia and South Pacific
Set on the pristine private atoll of Tetiaroa in French Polynesia, The Brando is the epitome of secluded eco-luxury. Originally a getaway for the Tahitian royals, it was then purchased by Marlon Brando as his personal retreat before his estate developed the iconic hotel that is now found amongst the turquoise lagoons and lush palms. Private villas are dotted along the shoreline, with direct beach access and private plunge pools to enjoy. Spend your time here relaxing in your secluded sanctuary, feasting on local fish and admiring the sunsets over the lagoon.
What makes The Brando so unique is its seamless blend of luxury with the commitment to environmental stewardship that they take so seriously. The resort is a global leader in sustainable tourism, with renewable energy and building practices that preserve the delicate ecosystems of the atoll. This creates a serene and respectful atmosphere, where you can enjoy the natural beauty of the island as you relax at the spa, snorkel in the colourful coral gardens and learn about the local Polynesian culture from the friendly staff.
What made my visit to The Brando so special was the privacy; you'd hardly know there were other people staying there. Tucked away in your villa amongst the palms - if you're looking for a luxurious eco escape, this is it.
The most ideal time to experience a stay at The Brando is between May and October, during French Polynesia's dry season. Enjoy warm and sunny days, with gentle trade winds that make conditions ideal for beach time and snorkelling. That's not to say the rest of the year is off limits, between November and April the weather is hotter with tropical showers but lush greenery and fewer visitors can make it an appealing time to visit.
